Moto2 is back in action at the Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Great Britain and their grid is locked in for Sunday with Izan Guevara (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2) at the head of the pack.
The Spaniard clocked in his 2:01.483s time early in the in the session, and his time hung on for his third career Moto2 pole position. Behind him, Alonso Lopez’s (ITALJET Gresini Moto2) ended the session three tenths off the #28 but he takes second, just denying Ivan Ortola (QJMOTOR-Biolec-MSI), who completes the front row.
Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team), Tony Arbolino (REDS Fantic Racing), and Momoven Idrofoglia RW Racing Teammates Ayumu Sasaki and Zonta van den Goorbergh were the four quickest through Q1. With just under 9 minutes left in Q2 however, the #84 got tangled up with Mario Aji (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) on the run into Turn 11, causing both riders to crash and bringing out the red flags to clear debris from the track.
Once action returned to the track, Guevara maintained his lead set prior to the stoppage, and while it looked as though a late time from Lopez would pry pole from the #28, his pace dropped off in the final sector of his final lap, relegating the #21 to P2.
Manuel Gonzalez (LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP) will lead the second row from P4, his time just over six tenths off of his compatriot on pole. Chasing ‘Manugas’ across the line was Daniel Munoz (Italtrans Racing Team), who is hungry for his second podium of the season. Filip Salač (OnlyFans American Racing Team) saw gravel in the session just before the red flag-inciting incident, and while his session ended early, he finished with a 2’02.278s time, good for P6.
Leading off row three, Daniel Holgado (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) was just 0.018s further back after proving fastest on Friday, and he will hope to climb up the order on Sunday to take fourth place in the Championship from his teammate David Alonso, who starts well down the order after failing to make it through Q1. Alex Escrig (KLINT Racing Team) in P8 was even closer behind Holgado, just 0.015s slower than the #96, with Roberts and Sasaki completing the top ten after moving through from Q1.
