Moto4 British Cup: Two winners from three races: the opening round of the R&G Moto4 British Cup delivered spectacular action from start to finish, with Jack Burrows and Ryan Frost claiming silverware!
Burrows kicks off 2026 in style
Jack Burrows (Burrows Engineering / RK Racing) began the 2026 R&G Moto4 British Cup in style, securing the opening victory of the season by 0.195s. The #16 finished ahead of Jack Dunabie (Kovara Projects / RS Racing), who enters his sophomore season in the championship. Finally, Ryan Frost (Fibre Tec Honda By MLav Racing) rounded out the opening podium of the season, with the #24 in search of the title after missing out in 2025. If Race 1 was anything to go by, we are in for an epic ride in 2026!
Frost took the lead on the opening lap, being chased by Dunabie, Burrows and rookie Luke Fitchett (Kovara Projects / RS Racing), who showed encouraging signs on debut. Burrows made his first attack in the final sector, igniting an incredible scrap as Dunabie also got his elbows out during the opening stages. The fighting allowed City Lifting / RS Racing’s Clayton Edmunds and Marco Holt to catch the leading pack, growing the group to five riders.
The fastest lap changed hands multiple times, with the lap record being shattered by Frost, clocking a 1:45.569. As the pace heated up, so did the drama as Edmunds lost the front at Turn 1 – crashing out on Lap 9. Over the next few laps, there was also drama with Jensen Bishop (Wilson Racing), with the #11 falling in Sector 2.
Burrows held the advantage in a now four-rider group, with tension brewing in the closing stages as the laps ticked down. Every move proved to be crucial before, as the red flag was brought out on Lap 11 following an incident involving Hudson Cooper (Rides R Us / NW Racing) and Fitchett. The race was declared a result, bringing an early end to the 12-lap season opener as Burrows was declared the winner.
Burrows’ official winning margin sat at 0.195s, with the RK Racing rider finishing ahead of Dunabie and Frost on a stacked podium. Holt finished his first British Cup race in fourth, with Mason Foster (Mortimer Racing) rounding out the top five. Harrison Day (LRA Moto supported by HV Solutions) converted his testing pace into race day, finishing sixth, whilst Joshua Williams (Dunsley Heat Racing) and George Bowes (A Edwards Racing) claimed the final places inside the top eight. Henry McCartney (Stanford Racing) and Thorley Trevorrow (Fibre Tec Honda By MLav Racing) finished inside the top 10 – setting up a Race 2 blockbuster.
Frost fights back on Saturday afternoon
Ryan Frost responded in Race 2, picking up his first victory of the season after finishing as runner-up in the season opener. The #24 defeated Jack Burrows, whilst rookie Marco Holt claimed his first R&G Moto4 British Cup podium at Oulton Park. It was a dramatic race, with the podium split by 0.323s as ‘Super Saturday’ came to an end with the second race of the weekend going the distance.
Burrows made another excellent start, leading the opening stages from Dunabie and Holt as another big lead group began to form. Archie Hooper’s (AH Racing) day came to an early end moments before Jensen Bishop suffered his second crash of the day, this time at Turn 16. Back at the front, the group stretched to seven riders as Frost soon entered P1, setting the fastest lap in the process.
Dunabie made a mistake on Lap 8, running deep on the entry to Hislop’s and dropping to P7 – leaving the #63 with plenty of work to do. His teammate Luke Fitchett also began to get stuck in as he looked for Saturday redemption, sitting ahead of Mason Foster. It didn’t take long for Dunabie to get his elbows out, quickly returning to the top five fight, setting sights on yet another podium.
Clayton Edmunds continued to have a difficult start to the season, crashing out on the penultimate lap and ending any hopes of a rostrum result. All eyes were on Frost vs Burrows: it was another thrilling scrap between the pair, with Race 2 going down to the wire. Burrows entered the final lap as leader, but it was Frost who snatched victory after an epic move on the exit of Turn 16.
Frost took victory by 0.259s, delivering Fibre Tec Honda By MLav Racing their first win of 2026. Burrows remained in second at the flag, securing a further 20 points as Holt grabbed the final spot on the podium after a drag race with Dunabie. 0.041s separated the P3 battle, with Foster, Fitchett, Joshua Williams and Henry McCartney rounding out the top eight. Harrison Day and Aeziah Divine (Fibre Tec Honda By MLav Racing) claimed top 10 finishes, with one race still remaining at Oulton Park.
Frost completes the double in dramatic Race 3
Ryan Frost celebrated the perfect end to the weekend at Oulton Park, grabbing a second victory of the season in Race 3. Jack Burrows missed out by 1.014s, with George Bowes earning his first podium of the season. It proved to be an attritional race, with just 10 finishers – creating plenty of headlines on Monday afternoon.
For the final time of the weekend, the British Cup grid went lights out with Jack Dunabie claiming an early advantage from Frost and Clayton Edmunds. There was drama for Fibre Tec Honda By MLav Racing’s Thorley Trevorrow and Tyler Humphries, with the teammates crashing out on the opening lap. Edmunds and Luke Fitchett later crashed at Turn 1 on the second lap – shaking up the order.
Marco Holt and Henry McCartney were the next to encounter issues at Turn 1 before Jack Dunabie suffered a crash at Turn 5 on Lap 3. Meanwhile, Burrows continued to lead Frost out front, with a comfortable margin over Foster in third position. However, it was soon a change of fortunes on Lap 6, with Foster losing the front at Turn 5 – ending podium dreams.
Although just 10 riders remained, there was still plenty of action on the circuit as Williams, Bowes and Divine were left to scrap for the final podium spot. Burrows continued to lead Race 3 heading onto the final lap as the Oulton Park fans were treated to yet another spectacular finish. Frost made the crucial move on the entry to Hislop’s, winning by over one second.
The #24 made it two in a row, beating Burrows as Bowes earned his first podium of the season. Divine and Williams rounded out the top five, with Harrison Day beating Charlie Cunningham (Mortimer Racing), Archie Hooper and Max Rhodes (Wilson Racing). Further back, Lily Rhodes (Wilson Racing) rounded out the top 10 and our finishers as all attention turns to Round 2.
Leaving Oulton Park, Frost leads the standings by just a single point after an intense opening weekend. Now we gear up for Donington Park, where we return to our two-race schedule. With 50 points on the table next time out, we are ready for more at Donington!
