Sena launches Apex and Apex Plus, its first bluetooth intercoms with replaceable batteries.
Supplied with two batteries and a dual charger, the new SENA Apex and Apex Plus offer up to 2 × 20 hours of talk time. Apex enables two users to communicate, while Apex Plus supports up to four users. Range up to 1.6 km, voice commands, a Quick Pair button for fast pairing, AINR microphone noise reduction and the new Slim Design complete the feature set. Recommended retail price: from £199 incl. VAT.
Two batteries to keep riding without recharging
Each device comes with two batteries, each offering up to 20 hours of talk time, plus a dual charger that can recharge them simultaneously. Riders can therefore prepare both batteries before setting off and carry a charged spare battery with them.
When the first battery runs out, it can be replaced in seconds during a stop. The two supplied batteries therefore provide up to 40 hours of combined battery life, without having to stop using the intercom while it charges.
This design also means the battery can be replaced when it reaches the end of its life, without having to replace the entire intercom.
The batteries can be recharged simultaneously using the supplied dual charger. They are also compatible with Qi wireless charging.
“With Apex and Apex Plus, we wanted to offer a simple solution for riders who use their intercom regularly. Being able to swap the battery in seconds means they can keep riding without having to stop using the unit while it charges,” says Vlada Bokza, Motorcycle Marketing Manager at SENA Europe.
Apex for two users, Apex Plus for up to four
Apex and Apex Plus share the same design, controls and replaceable battery system.
Apex allows a rider and passenger, or two riders travelling together, to communicate directly via Bluetooth.
Apex Plus can connect up to four users. It is particularly suited to two motorcycles, each carrying a rider and passenger, allowing all four people to stay in communication.
In both cases, the Bluetooth intercom range can reach 1.6 km.
Controls designed for gloved hands
On a motorcycle, controls need to be easy to find and use with gloves, without taking attention away from the road.
Apex and Apex Plus feature the Quick Pair button, which starts pairing with another intercom with a single press, with no long press or sequence of commands required.
Both models also introduce a new SENA Thumb Wheel. Turning and pressing it adjusts the volume and provides access to the main functions for calls, music and intercom use.
The voice commands provide access to certain functions without taking a hand off the handlebars or searching for a button on the unit, helping the rider stay focused on the road.
Clear sound
Apex and Apex Plus feature second-generation 40 mm HD speakers.
AI-based Noise Cancellation at the microphone helps isolate the voice from wind and road noise transmitted during conversations. This makes conversations easier to understand without unnecessarily increasing the volume.
With the new “slim design” style
Apex and Apex Plus adopt Slim Design, the new styling developed by SENA to preserve the aerodynamics and appearance of the helmet.
Their magnetic mount allows the main unit to be removed and refitted quickly.
Three interchangeable faceplates, available in silver, matt black or white, also make it possible to match the intercom to the helmet.
Built to last
IPX7 certified, Apex and Apex Plus are designed to operate in the rain.
The main unit is covered for life against defects in components and workmanship. The battery and mounting kit are covered for five years. This warranty is reserved for the original purchaser and applies under the terms available on the brand’s website at

Apex expands the bluetooth range alongside Vortex
A few weeks after the launch of Vortex, designed for straightforward two-person communication, SENA is expanding its new Bluetooth intercom range with Apex.
Both models allow two people to communicate and share several features, including the Quick Pair button, magnetic mount, Qi wireless charging and IPX7 protection.
Apex differs in three main ways:
- a replaceable battery, with two batteries and a dual charger included;
- a range of up to 6 km, compared with 1.2 km for Vortex;
- voice commands.
Priced at £139 incl. VAT, Vortex remains the more affordable option for straightforward two-person communication.
Priced at £199 incl. VAT, Apex adds the replaceable battery, with up to 40 hours of combined talk time from the two supplied batteries, a longer range and voice commands.
