Road racing star Davey Todd has shared an update after a violent crash during qualifying for the Daytona 200. The incident has left his 2026 BSB and road racing season hanging in the balance. The crash occurred after an earlier on track collision with another rider that left his bike damaged which set the stage for a catastrophic failure later in qualifying. According to Davey on social media, despite the PHR Performance team’s efforts to repair his bike, a steering issue caused his bike to jam mid-corner, causing him to make a brutal impact with the wall. On impact Davey sustained a broken left femur, fractured right tibia, broken foot and a broken
nose which required immediate surgery.

Surgeons inserted a rod in his femur and used screws to stabilise his tibia. Despite the severity of his condition, he remains upbeat, telling fans he is
“on the mend” and working steadily through early rehabilitation.
Todd explained that the crash happened just minutes into his return to the track after his first incident of the day. In typical American racing fashion, he was able to ride the damaged bike back to the pits — something not permitted in British Superbikes — and his team worked intensely to get it ready again. Believing the Triumph was back in safe condition, Davey rejoined the session only for the hidden steering fault to appear without warning on his next run.
This regrettable setback has put major question marks over Davey’s ability to compete at upcoming North West 200 and the prestigious Isle of Man TT – where he is a multi-time race winner. While the 30-year-old competitor remains determined, he acknowledged he cannot offer any timeline for his return to racing.
The Daytona crash marked his debut appearance at the iconic U.S. circuit, making the disappointment even harder to take. Davey had travelled to Florida to launch his 2026 season with PHR Performance, joining TT rival and team-mate Peter Hickman. In a heartfelt message to supporters, Todd thanked the medical staff, his partner Abbie [Raven], and all of the fans who reached out following the crash. Despite the uncertainty, he emphasised his determination to return:
“I can’t give an ETA, but I’m working really hard and taking it day by day.”
As Todd begins the long road back to full fitness, the racing world awaits further updates — hopeful that one of road racing’s brightest talents will make a strong return later in the season.
