WorldSPB: The 12-lap race for the Sportbike class was action-packed all the way.
The race distilled to a five-way battle for the victory that was settled in the final metres. Antonio Torres (Team ProDina Kawasaki XCI), Bruno Ieraci (CM Triumph Factory Racing) and David Salvador (Team ProDina Kawasaki XCI) stood on the rostrum with the three riders combining to lead all but one lap today.
The race started and ended with race leaders involved in an accident. On Lap 1 Jeffrey Buis (Track & Trades Wixx Racing) and Loris Veneman (MTM Kawasaki) were two of the high profile crashers. It was a five rider incident at Turn 1 with other riders running off track as they took avoiding action. The final lap saw Kas Beekmans (VLR Racing Team Suzuki) and Xavi Artigas (MTM Kawasaki) crash at Turn 20. The Dutchman lost the front on the inside line and Artigas was a hapless victim.
The incidents opened the door for Carter Thompson (Team BrCorse) to come through and finish a season’s best fifth position despite suffering a double long lap penalty from a Race 1 incident.
Championship Highlights
- Salvador extended his championship lead to ten points from Torres.
- Salvador’s consistency, five podiums from six races, has also helped Kawasaki to open a 22 point advantage over Suzuki in the Manufacturer Standings.

“Today was very difficult because Bruno was really fast. We tried to move to the front as quickly as possible and stay there to avoid suffering too much in the group. We managed the race well and stayed competitive throughout. It was a crazy race and I’m incredibly happy, both for myself and for Salvador as well. The championship is still very long and it’s only one race, but it’s positive to be so close to the top of the standings.”
