WorldSSP: The Supersport class once again delivered a great race with a multiple rider battle for the victory.
Roberto Garcia (GMT94 Yamaha) led for much of the race but the pressure told on Lap 14 when the Spanish rider crashed out of the lead at Turn 15. The right hand corner would later prove critical with the victory decided at the end of the 18 lap race.
On the final lap Can Oncu (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) ran deep into the Turn 12 chicane and lost momentum on the run to the final sector. With Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) and Valentin Debise (EASTROC ZXMOTO Evan Bros Factory) hot on his heels they attacked into Turn 15. Oncu dropped to third position with Debise winning the race to the chequered flag ahead of Arenas.
The opening lap of the race saw Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing Verdnatura) start from the eighth row of the grid. Mired in the midfield on the opening lap following a Superpole crash, the championship leader ended his race in the Turn 2 gravel. Without setting a representative lap during the race he will start down the order once again in Race 2.
Having set the fastest lap of the race, Arenas will start tomorrow’s 18 lap race from pole position. Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) will line up second on the grid ahead of Oncu.

- Arenas retakes the championship lead. The rookie leads Masia by 19 points
- With Matteo Ferrari (WRP Racing) the leading Ducati home in fifth position Yamaha has closed to within 12 points in the Manufacturer Standings

“This was a very tough race! I didn’t quite have the same speed as the others, so I focused on being as consistent as possible. At one point they started to pull away but stayed calm and kept my pace. On the last lap I thought it would be difficult to pass because I had lost time in sector one but then Oncu made a small mistake in the chicane and Albert hesitated a little. I opened my line and got a better exit and kept the throttle open while they had to roll off. I managed to go around them. It wasn’t a perfect race but I’m very happy with the win because it was unexpected.”
