WorldSPB: Having started from pole position, courtesy of his fastest lap in Race 1, Loris Veneman (MTM Kawasaki) claimed his first win in the Sportbike class.
The 19 year old Dutchman led a total of five laps and claimed the win by just 0.060s from David Salvador (Team ProDina Kawasaki XCI).
Race 1 winner Antonio Torres (Team ProDina Kawasaki XCI) was less than one tenth of a second from the win in third position. He held off Xavi Artigas (MTM Kawasaki) by a similar margin.
With seven manufacturers on the grid it was encouraging for the brand new class to have five manufacturers inside the top eight positions.
The leading group of ten riders scrapped throughout the race and just over one second separated them at the end of the 11 lap race.
Championship Highlights
- Torres leads his teammate Salvador by one point following the opening weekend.
- Kawasaki’s dominant weekend was rewarded with a 24 point advantage at the head of the Manufacturers Standings.
P1 – Loris Veneman (MTM Kawasaki)
“Race 2 was incredible. I felt really comfortable and fast throughout the race and I was able to lead for most of it. The plan was to try and break away with a small group although a few riders came back towards the end. It didn’t change my approach and I just focused on my own race to keep a strong rhythm. I’m really looking forward to racing in Assen. With the Sportbike it’s an even more enjoyable track than with the 300 because it’s so fast, and I think it suits the bike very well.”
