WorldSSP: Can Oncu (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) claimed his second Superpole of the season with a new lap record of 1’33.802.
The Turkish rider held an advantage of 0.050s from Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha) for a Yamaha one-two.
In advance of the session Valentin Debise (EASTROC ZXMOTO Evan Bros Factory) was handed a three place grid penalty for slow riding in Free Practice. The Frenchman set the third fastest time but he will be relegated to the second row for Race 1. His place on the front row will be taken by Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing Team).
Oli Bayliss (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) and Roberto Garcia (GMT94 Yamaha) enjoyed a solid Superpole performance to set the fifth and sixth fastest times while championship contender Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing Verdnatura) struggled en route to the 12th fastest time.
P1 – Can Oncu (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing)
“I’m very happy. In Free Practice we focused mainly on doing laps and enjoying riding. During the Superpole we tried to put one clean lap together but I think there was still a bit more lap time possible. We can improve a little more for tomorrow but pole position is always a great result. We started to build confidence over the last few rounds and now we’ve made another step forward. I’ve improved and adapted more to the team because in the first races it wasn’t easy for us to find the right way to work together. Once we started to understand each other better we realised we are a really strong combination and the results began to come.”
