British Superbikes: Kyle Ryde and Scott Redding continued their battle for supremacy at Brands Hatch today, with the reigning champion claiming his second victory of the weekend for Nitrous Coin Nitrous Competitions Racing in race two, before a fired up Hager PBM Racing Team retaliated to win the final race on the Grand Prix circuit.
Ryde carried his winning momentum from yesterday into race two and despite an intense early duel with Redding; the reigning champion continued to set a sensational pace to deliver victory.
At the start of the race, Max Cook had launched into the lead ahead of Redding, with Ryde losing ground after not getting the best launch off the line. The defending champion was determined though, with a big move into Druids for the first time to regain ground and move up to third after the opening few corners.
Ryde was pushing hard and after duelling with Redding over the opening laps with the pair trading blows, the Nitrous Coin Nitrous Competitions Racing rider was able to fend off his challenge and then made his move on Cook at Graham Hill Bend.
Ryde then smashed the lap record with consistent fast laps to give him an edge over the battle for second. Redding was able to make his move on lap eight and despite Cook trying to retaliate; he had to settle for third place and another strong podium finish for the AJN Steelstock bimota team.
Bradley Ray was fourth on the McAMS Yamaha, just adrift of the fight for the podium on the special anniversary liveried McAMS Yamaha. Behind there was another fierce battle between Ryan Vickers and Leon Haslam, with the Honda Racing UK rider emerging ahead at the chequered flag.
However, a fired up Redding wasn’t prepared to finish second again to his rival in the final race of the weekend and the Hager PBM Racing Team contender was unwavering in his bid to defeat double winner Ryde.
Redding was frustrated after missing the win in the opening two races, as he pushed to battle with Ryde, but the 2019 champion delivered in race three. At the start of the race, Ray had grabbed the lead into Paddock Hill Bend for the first time, but the Hager PBM Racing Team rider was determined, and made a pass into Druids on the opening lap.
Redding was not going to settle for second and he held off Ryde and Cook over the opening laps and was trying to make a break when the BMW Safety Car was deployed on lap seven when Brayden Elliott crashed at Stirlings.
When the race resumed, Redding backed the pack up and was able to fend off the initial attack. Ryde was trying everything to make it a treble, but he couldn’t get back ahead of his fierce title rival and there was 0.925s between them at the chequered flag.

Cook continued his strong weekend with a hat trick of third places as Haslam held on to fourth after an earlier battle with Vickers and Ray, whilst Glenn Irwin was just adrift in seventh place.
The double win at second place meant Ryde was crowned the ITS King of Brands for the first time, as the title fight now heads to Oulton Park for the next three races.

“It feels great to win my first King of Brands trophy! All the races haven’t been easy this weekend, but I was happy with the win in race two earlier, the pace was crazy fast!
“In race three, Scott got a very good start and we were both riding at a very fast speed so I knew there was going to be a dogfight at the end.
“With eight or nine laps to go, I think I did a few of my best laps and tried to get as close as I could to him. I had a few issues with the brake lever and after that, every time I got close, I didn’t really want to make a move and something go wrong.
“A weekend with two firsts and a second and the King of Brands trophy to take home is great for the championship so roll on Oulton where I am sure we are going to all be battling again!”

“I was a little bit upset with this morning! Sometimes you’re just a little bit annoyed and sometimes as a rider you just need that little bit. You’re fine tuning the motorcycle, but sometimes you’ve just got to ride through it. I managed to go for a 10-minute power nap, come straight back down and was like ‘now it’s my time, I’ve got to do something’. I just had that feeling.
“I got a dynamite start which I needed, thought I was going to holeshot from the second row, and didn’t hang about and got my head down. After the Safety Car I knew Kyle would have a go at turn one so I defended that best I could.
“When I got my flow again I felt I was controlling the situation, then I got a gap but Kyle was coming again. The key factors to this race was I needed to improve my weak points just a little bit but be consistent so he can’t pass me. I was trying everything I could, defending, trying different lines. I was deep in the toolbox of what I could do to win that race and it felt so good!”
