MotoJunior: The tightest of margins separate the stars of the future at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo after an intense day of qualifying action
The stakes rise and so do expectations as Valencia hosts Round 5 of the FIM MotoJunior World Championship. Carlos Cano excels in Moto3 Junior qualifying with Kiattisak Singhapong in close pursuit, while Alvaro Lucas meets the challenge of his first match point in 2026 with a front row start in Moto4.
Moto3 Junior World Championship
– Carlos Cano (CFMOTO Aspar Junior Team) claimed his first pole position in the Moto3 Junior World Championship at Magny-Cours, with a sensational 1:44.539s giving him P1 on the timesheets.
– The #71 was almost four tenths clear of Kiattisak Singhapong (Honda Asia – Dream Racing Junior Team), who was the first rider to lap in the 1:44s. Nevertheless, the Thai rider will go from P2 on the grid for Saturday’s sole Moto3 Junior World Championship race.
– The first row was completed by Fernando Bujosa (AC Racing Team). The Spaniard set a 1:45.101s to take his first front row start since the season-opening visit to Barcelona.
– Giulio Pugliese (CFMOTO Aspar Junior Team) headed to France as the Championship leader, and he will line up from the head of the second row after setting the fourth-quickest lap time, a 1:45.239s.
Moto2 European Championship
– Another rider on pole for the first time is Alessandro Morosi (Eagle-1). Recording a searing lap of 1:33.208s, the Italian will look to improve on his double podium in Round 4.
– A permanent figure at the front this season, Eric Fernandez (Fau55TeyRacing) continued his strong qualifying streak. “La Bala” was just 0.043s seconds slower than Morosi and will look to claw back ground in the title race from P2.
– Completing the front row for the sole race in the Moto2 ECh is Jacob Roulstone (Team Ciatti – Boscoscuro). The Australian secured his best-ever grid position in the class; can he claim a first podium as well?
– Championship leader Milan Pawelec (AGR Team) will start from P8 after enduring his worst qualifying of the 2026 campaign.
Moto4 European Cup
– Victor Cubeles (Team Impala Honda) claims pole for the first time in Moto4! With a time of 1:41.511s, the Spaniard recorded the fastest lap in qualifying and will look to build on his impressive outing last time out at Magny-Cours, where he took his maiden win and a podium in the two races in France.
– Two-tenths of a second behind, Championship leader Alvaro Lucas (CFMOTO Aspar Junior Team) was edged into P2. The Spaniard has been impeccable this season and could clinch the title in Race 2.
– Looking to prevent that outcome is Lorenzo Pritelli (Team Echovit Pasini Racing), who completes the front row. The Italian is currently second in the standings, 36 points behind Lucas.
Stock European Championship
– Lorenzo Fellon (SF Racing) claimed his maiden pole in the Stock European Championship. Fresh from his first victory in the class on home soil at Magny Cours, the Frenchman set a 1:36.330s to take top spot by 0.101s for tomorrow’s race.
– Jacobo Hinojosa (Futurotel Face Racing) will start from P2 after qualifying third as Championship leader Yeray Ruiz (Team Honda Laglisse FPS) was disqualified for a technical infringement.
– That also meant that David Jimenez (MDR Competicion), who secured a career-best qualifying result in P4, is promoted to the front row for the race ahead of Alberto Garcia (Top Surface Aspar Team) in P4 and Blai Trias (GV Tamoil Racing) in P5.
