The penultimate WorldSSP300 race of the season was red flagged after a three rider crash at Turn 1.
When the race restarted the five lap battle was won by Matteo Vannucci (PATA AG Motorsport Italia WorldSSP300) from pole position. The Italian had been leading the initial race before the delay.
From third on the grid David Salvador (Team ProDina XCI) attacked on the final lap but had to settle for second position. The Spaniard was beaten on the drag to the line by 0.019s but held off Daniel Mogeda (Pons Motosport Italika Racing) for a critical twenty points.
A Turn 2 crash in the early stages of the race meant that when the race was red flagged Carter Thompson (MTM Kawasaki) found himself 30th on the grid for the restart. The Australian rider battled his way through to finish in eighth position at the chequered flag and claim an important eight points.
A final lap incident with Loris Veneman (MTM Kawasaki) dropped Benat Fernandez (Team#109 Retro Traffic Kove) outside of the points at the end of the race. It was a costly incident for the championship leader who had been on course earlier in the race to seal the title but an end of day penalty saw Veneman given a penalty for irresponsible riding and Fernandez claiming a point in 15th position.
Championship Highlights
- Just three points separate Fernandez, Thompson and Salvador into the final race of the season.
- Vannucci is the fourth title contender but is 21 points adrift. The Italian needs to win Race 2 to have a chance of title success.

“The red flag made Race 1 very difficult. To have five laps in a race means it isn’t easy to find a good pace. I had one thing in my mind: push, push, push! In the end, I did it. This is another win and I’m really happy. Thanks to AG Motorsport Italia for their amazing work. I’ll take the same approach for Race 2 and try to fight for the title even though it won’t be easy.
